Beautifully proportioned chair from the Guardian Weekend collection. This is a unique one off piece.
The chair was completely ripped down to the frame - which is absolutely beautiful just as a frame. The quality of craftsmanship was some of the best I have seen. The seat is traditionally upholstered. Hand lashed springs, stuffed with coir, mixed hair and cotton felt. The back is also traditionally upholstered.
I sourced the gold buttons from the Button Queen in Marylebone. I stuffed out the back a little more but not too much. I went for a mix of deep and semi shallow buttoning. The Sanderson fabric was great to work with although it sends your eyes and mind in opposite directions. It does when you’re working with it anyway. It’s simultaneously traditional and contemporary. I’ve hand stitched James Hare silk to the back. The trim is from the Cloth House in Soho.
